GENERAL TEAM INFORMATION

 

 

Games:

 

Each team will be guaranteed three (3) games.  Due to the size of the tournament all games must start on time.  There will be no infield warm-up prior to the start of your game.  Lineup cards will be provided, and must be handed to the other team and the umpire ten (10) minutes before game time.  No new inning will start after 1 hour 45 minutes. Top 2 teams in each division will play Sunday.

Rules & Regulations

 

 

 

 

1.       2005 Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) Constitution and Official Rules shall apply.

 

2.       Fees will apply as an appearance bond and will not be refunded.

 

3.       To be accepted in the Silver Bat Tournament each team must provide:

a. Written permission sheet from your OBA affiliated association, in which your team plays, and must be provided before your first game.  These permission slips will be sent to the OBA tournament chairperson upon completion of the tournament.

b. Your team roster sheet approved by the OBA registrar must be presented to tournament officials prior to the player participating in the team’s first game.

c. All players must sign the approved OBA tournament sign in form, which will also be forwarded to the OBA tournament chairperson.

 

4.       Managers and Coaches are responsible for their players and parents’ behavior.

 

5.       Line up cards must be presented to the other team and umpire 10 minutes before your scheduled game.

 

6.       A minimum number of players to field a team is 9 and if short will default that game.  The other team will be scored a 7 to 0 win.

 

7.       “Home team” will be determined by a flip of a coin before each game with the team traveling the farthest away making the call – who ever wins the toss will decide whether to be the home team or away team.

 

8.       HOME TEAM:  will be the official score keeper with the responsibility of

a. Keeping the official score

b. Obtaining signatures of both coaches/managers to sign the score sheet at the end of the game

c. Confirming the final game score

d. Accurately recording each team’ players’ name and number who had a pitching appearance and number of innings pitched.

e.The Home team is to receive a copy, the away team receives a copy, and the top copy (white) is to be handed back to a convenor or NBA representative at the diamond.

 

9.       The decision of the umpire(s) is final.  There will be no protest of judgement calls by the umpire(s).

 

10.   Any protest will be resolved on the field by a tournament convenor, or NBA committee member(s).  All decisions will be final.

 

11.  In case of rain, starting games may be delayed, and the tournament schedule may be revised.

 

12.   Ejection from a game of a Manager, Coach, or player is an automatic suspension from the next scheduled tournament game.

 

13.   O.B.A. pitching rules shall apply and be strictly enforced – See Pitching Rules

 

14.   There will be no infield practice allowed before your scheduled game.

 

15.   Tournament awards are set at a maximum of 14 per team.

 

16.   Base distance will be 65 feet, pitching distance 44 feet.

 

17.   All preliminary games will be either 7 innings or a maximum of 2 hours in length.  No new inning may be started after 1 hour 45 minutes.  (Unless due to an injury delay, which the umpire will announce prior to the continuation of play).  There will be no time limit in the semi-final and championship game.  

 

18.   The Mercy rule will be in effect for all games, 10 run difference after 5 innings played.

 

19.   Ties stand during the preliminary round.

 

20.   No shoes with metal spikes will be allowed.  Helmets with chinstraps are mandatory.

 

21.   In case of bad weather, Managers/Coaches and or designates will be notified by the tournament convenor as per game status.

 

22.   In case of rainout the tournament will be re-scheduled in whole or in part during the same weekend.

 

Pitching Rules – Mosquito:

 

Ø      In Minor Mosquito and Mosquito no player shall pitch more than seven (7) innings on any calendar day and no more than fourteen (14) innings in any tournament.

 

Ø      If a player pitches five (5) or more innings in any day, he/she cannot pitch the next day.  The player must have two (2) nights’ rest.  Any player who assumes the pitching position in an inning will be charged with an inning pitched.  Innings pitched will apply to the calendar day in which they were pitched.  Friday is considered a separate day as per OBA rules. 

 

Ø      Illegal pitching penalty: Where a player pitches more innings or outs than is permitted the player’s team shall forfeit the game. 

 

Ø      It is the responsibility of the manager or coach of each team to verify the innings pitched with the official scorer at the end of each game.

 

 

 

SUNDAY GAMES – TOP TWO TEAMS IN EACH DIVISION

 

The top two teams in each division will advance to the next round on Sunday.  In the preliminary round, points will be awarded on the following basis: WIN – two (2) points, TIE - one (1) point, LOSS – zero (0) points.  If there are two or more teams tied within a division then the tie breaking rules listed below will apply.

 

IN THE EVENT OF A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION FOR FIRST AND SECOND OR SECOND AND THIRD, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE USED:

 

1.       In the event of a tie between two (2) teams, the winner of the head to head game will advance or will have the higher position.

 

2.       In all other circumstances the following formulas will apply:

 

a)      Team with the smallest runs against ratio (runs allowed divided by the number defensive innings played) - total from all 3 games.

The lower number will advance or get the higher seeding.

 

b)      Team with the highest runs for ratio (runs scored divided by the number of offensive innings played) – total from all 3 games.   

The higher number will advance or get the higher seeding.

 

c)      Coin Toss

 

 

 

BYE TO CHAMPIOSHIP GAME

 

IF A TEAM IS 4 – 0 THEN THEY WILL GET THE BYE, HOWEVER, IN THE EVENT 2 OR MORE TEAMS HAVE A 4 – 0 RECORD THEN TO DETERMINE WHICH TEAM GETS THE BYE TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME SUNDAY AFTERNOON, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE USED:

 

The following formulas will apply:

 

a)      Team with the smallest runs against ratio (runs allowed divided by the number defensive innings played) - total from all 4 games.

The lower number will advance or get the higher seeding.

 

b)      Team with the highest runs for ratio (runs scored divided by the number of offensive innings played) – total from all 4 games.   

The higher number will advance or get the higher seeding.

 

c)      Coin Toss
