Stingers Eliminated From OBA's.   August 30

Like two fighters trading punches till one goes down The Stingers came up on the short end to Georgetown 10-8. Only able to hold The Eagles scoreless in 1 inning we took a 1 run lead into the 6th. Unable to add any insurance, Georgetown struck for 3 in the bottom half and that was all they would need to end The Stingers season.

Stingers Lose Heartbreaker In Extra Innings.   August 30

The Stingers fell behind 6-1 to Cambridge after 4 innings but were able to claw back and tie the game in the 7th. However Cambridge scored in the bottom of the 8th to take the game 7-6. A couple of costly errors and leaving too many men on base hurt our chances of winning yet again. With our first loss we go on to face Georgetown in a do or die game.

Stingers Shut-out Twins In OBA Opener.   August 29

An outstanding pitching performance by Sammy, who went six innings, allowed only two hits and no runs in the 5-0 win. He faced only 18 batters the minimum possible in six innings. The one batter he pitched to in the seventh got their second hit and he was pulled due to pitch count. Luc then sat them down in order leaving their only stranded baserunner of the game. David had a great game at the plate. Going 3 for 4, with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Sean was 2 for 3, and had 2 RBI's, and Steven T. was 2 for 2, with 2 RBI's and a walk.

Majors Give Stingers Early Exit In CNE Tournament.   August 19

You don't win many games when you manage only five hits and leave nine runners on base and today's game was no exception. In pay back for our extra inning semi-final victory in Gatineau, the Miss. Majors thumped the Stingers 10-4. The Majors starting pitcher took a perfect game into the fourth. They also hit two home-runs accounting for five of their runs. We loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and again with none out in the seventh but only scored one run.

2008 TBA City Finalists

The Stingers quest to repeat as City Champs was not to be. Three errors that each resulted in an unearned run and eight men left on base were the difference as The Stingers fell to The Etobicoke Titans 4-1. Ice cold bats resulted in only five hits. The Titans only had five as well but got them when they needed them. Good job to Adam and Patrick for getting four of our five hits with two each. Hopefully our hitting will come to life in the OBAs at the end of the month.

Bulldogs Have Bite, Force Extra Innings.   August 10

East York was our equal in everything but runs, (the important one) in an exciting and sometimes scary victory for The Stingers. Taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, The Bulldogs were able to tie it and send the game into extras. Great job to Adam who knocked in a run in the sixth on a sac fly and with two out in the top of the eighth hit a double to score Trevor from second for the winning run. Adam you get my MVP of today's game. But these dogs weren't about to put their tails between their legs and go home. In the bottom of the eighth, with two out and runners on second and third, Coach Frank intentionally walked one of their heavy hitters to load the bases. The next batter worked the count to full while fouling off three pitches. Then with the runners going on the pitch Luc got the called third strike to end the game. Now we wait to see whose next.

Titans Take Rain Soaked Game.   August 9

The Stingers were handed their first loss of the TBA's by Etobicoke in a close 5-3 game. The Titans got hits in every inning for a total of thirteen and struck for four runs in the third that turned out to be all they would need. Our bats went cold as we only managed five hits and stranded six base-runners. The loss sets up a re-match against East York who beat The Wildcats knocking them out of the tournament.

Stingers Cruise To Victory Over Bulldogs.   August 7

In the opening game of the TBA Championships the Stingers scored runs in all but the second inning to win 8-2. Trevor and Sammy combined for strong pitching, allowing only one run each and limiting East York to five hits. It was an all around team victory. With the win we go on to face Etobicoke Saturday morning.

Stingers Defeat Twins To Advance To Hamilton Final.   August 6

In a game that went to an extra frame the Stingers were able to beat the Twins 8-7 to face North York in the rain delayed tournament final. Luc pitched a strong start holding them to one run over five innings as we built a 7-1 lead. But the tough squad from Mississauga wasn't prepared to lay down and struck for 6 in the bottom of the sixth to tie it. In the top of the eight Steven H. got a lead off walk, stole his way to third and with two out, Patrick singled him home for the winning run. Steven T pitched two hitless innings in the seventh and eighth to close out the game.

Stingers Stay Alive With Victory Over Waterloo.    August 2

Taking home for the first time since forever, the Stingers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. Only to be erased as Waterloo tied it in the top of the second. A sixth inning run explosion broke a close game wide open. With the score 6-5 the bats came to life big time as we stung Waterloo for seven in the bottom half of the inning.

Tigers Show Claws In Last Inning Victory   August 1

Runs seem hard to come by so far this tournament. In another pitching and defense showdown versus the Mississauga North Tigers. Sammy Brown and Luc Wiebe pitched great, limiting the Tigers to only six hits. Tiger pitching however held us to only four hits. The turning point may have been when in the  6th  inning with the score 1-1, we loaded the bases with two out and were held from scoring. We left five runners on base to the Tigers two. The game remained tied till the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on first and third they scored the winning run while we had the runner on first in a run-down.

Whitby Peewee Eliminations Tournament.     August 1

Stingers Take Game One 3-0.

Thanks to shut-out pitching by Trevor Whitaker and Steven Tierney, and timely hits by Steven Harland, Trevor, and David Rahikka. We were able to scratch out the win against the much improved West Toronto Wildcats. In fact they got our only hits in this hard fought pitchers duel. Colin Edwards also walked twice and scored what would be the winning run. Fielding was excellent for both teams with West Toronto committing the only error, a dropped third strike on Josh Williams who reached first and got the RBI when Trevor scored on the play. Steven T would have also scored but was called out on coaches interference. We'll have to show Frank where the coaches box is......just kidding Frank.

Stingers better Badgers in Hamilton   July 18

Propelled by a 3 homerun performance the Stingers pounded the London Badgers 27-1 in game one of the tournament. Sean Ratcliffe hit a solo dinger, Trevor Whitaker had a 2 run shot, and Josh Williams wailed a grand-slam. Steven Harland and Sammy Brown both had 2 RBI triples.

Game two was a real pitchers duel against Richmond Hill. Luc Wiebe and Steven Tierney both had strong outings. Unfortunately so did the RH pitchers as we lost 3-1.

Not long after, the skies opened up and our third game against Oakville was postponed till Sunday. With still more rain in the morning our game kept getting pushed back.  Finally Oakville said enough and forfeited the game. That win gave us the Wildcard spot against Miss. Twins, to be played at a later date as it never really did stop raining.

Stingers place second in Gatineau, Quebec tournament.   July 6

After a hot and hard fought tournament, the Stingers were out of gas when they faced Whitby in the championship. Finishing with a 4-2 record including a win against arch rival Richmond Hill which sent them packing. Our only two losescame at the hands of three time ranking Provincial Champs Whitby. Once in the preliminary round 8-5 and again in the finals 10-0. Good job to all the boys on a well played tournament.
