 Stingers Take Brantford by Storm

Coach Bob

The Scarborough Stingers were victorious this weekend going an undefeated 5 – 0 in winning the Brantford tournament.

The round robin started out quickly for the Stingers scoring 5 runs in the 1st and 3rd innings on the way to a 13 – 4 win against the Mississauga Tigers. Sean lead the way going 4 for 4 with Colin getting on base 4 times with 2 hits and 2 walks. Josh contributed a couple of booming doubles. Pat was able to work the pitcher for 2 walks and scored 2 runs.

The second game against the Brantford Red Sox #1 team ended 16 – 5 but was actually a closer game. With the team winning 5 – 3 going into the 7th and last inning, the Stingers exploded for 11 runs in a 35 minute, 17 batter inning. Sammy, Josh and Adam chipped in with 3 hits each in the victory.

After the game, the Stingers headed back to headquarters just in time for the big rain to hit. In what could only be described as monsoon like rain that included hail, the parking lot and fields became rivers. Luc was wondering when the tornado was coming. He was not too far off! All games were cancelled for the day and the schedule picked back up Sunday morning.

The conveners did an unbelievable job to get the fields ready for play on Sunday. Entering game 3 against the Simcoe Giants, the Stingers were assured of 1st place thanks to their two previous wins. The round robin ended with a 15 – 8 win in a 20 hit attack. Steven lead the way going 4 for 4 with Colin and Trevor adding 3 hits each. Akeel was a  nemesis on the base paths scoring 3 runs.

The semi final game with the always tough North York Blues team was a close battle featuring great defensive plays and fine pitching. In a 6 – 3 win, a four run 3rd inning featured a two out, 3 run home run by Trevor that put the Stingers ahead to stay. Trevor started the game and pitched into the sixth inning before giving way to “B.J.” Colin who closed out the game to preserve the win.

In the finals the Stingers faced off with the Burlington Bulls and took the championship with a 9 – 5 win. The top of the order lead the way with leadoff Sammy getting 3 hits and Luc batting second going 4 for 4.  Alec scored 2 runs and made a fine catch in the field.
